Zack Cregger put himself on the horror and Hollywood map when his 2002 film, Barbarian, became a hit, earning $45 million on a budget of just $4 million. Now, his next film, Weapons, is creating major buzz. Starring Pedro Pascal and Julia Garner, the horror film already has a release date.
While it's too early for a trailer, multiple other details like the cast have been confirmed, although it hasn’t been revealed what roles they are playing. It has also been revealed that the movie will be directed and produced by Zach Cregger. But what else do we know right now?
In this article, we will reveal everything we know about the upcoming film, including its release date. Also, stay tuned as we will keep updating this space with more details when they are available.
New Line Cinema will release Weapons in theaters on Friday, August 8, 2025. The film is rated R for strong bloody violence, images, language, and some sexual content and drug use.
Exact plot details are still under wraps, but Zack Cregger’s film will be in the horror genre. Weapons will also be dramatic and have a core element of mystery. THR described the film as, “An interrelated, multistory horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia… the story revolves around the disappearance of high schoolers in a small town.”
Bloody Disgusting site revealed some more details about the cast and the plot. The site wrote, “Julia Garner starring as an elementary school teacher who arrives to work one morning only to find her entire class of kids went missing the night before.” They reported Cregger saying that it is “a movie that unravels and reinvents itself as it goes.”
Variety also revealed what was said in the footage shown during CinemaCon 2025. It revealed, ““Mrs. Gandy’s room was totally empty… Because the night before, at 2:17 a.m., every kid woke up, got out of bed, walked downstairs and into the dark and they never came back,” a child’s voiceover says.”
The site also revealed more details about the video- “Footage was — featuring children sleepwalking giddily as if possessed, running into the pitch dark. The final moments of the trailer revealed a terrifying figure hiding deep in the woods, one that looked overwhelmingly like a female clown.”
The outlet also expanded on the plot- “As the small town where Cregger’s horror show is set reels from the news, Garner’s teacher becomes the focal point of parental and administrative anger. It’s not long before these missing kids start appearing to her as apparitions — rocking hollow eye sockets and disturbing smiles.”
It looks like it is. On the MaybrookMissing.net website (a site made to promote the film) the text says:
"A chilling mystery has gripped the small town of Maybrook after 17 children voluntarily left their homes Wednesday morning. Authorities are baffled by the inexplicable disappearance, which has shaken the community to its core."
It further reads, "Upon investigation, front door camera footage showed the children leaving their homes at 2:17 am Wednesday morning without any signs of force. Since then, little information has surfaced, and the case continues to baffle investigators."
It ends with this- "In response, a school gathering was held, where growing unease among parents became clear. As the town struggles to understand what happened, officials continue to urge the public for any leads, while Maybrook is left waiting for answers."
This website also features a news article reporting what happened to Georgina Campbell’s Tess in that Detroit Airbnb basement. This Barbarian connection could mean that both the films do take place in the same universe. However, its not yet known whether there will be a deeper connection than this.
This is the confirmed cast for now:
There is no trailer yet, but a short teaser is available, which features a little kid running across the doorstep of a home. Check out the footage, which looks like it has been captured using a ring cam:
