The first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another starring Leonardo DiCaprio has dropped and it's already going viral online.
The intense trailer follows the 21-second teaser released last week that gave a glimpse of the action to come. This is the first time Leonardo DiCaprio and Anderson have worked together, and the film is expected to be action-packed and have big set pieces that are expected to blow the viewers away.

What is the plot of One Battle After Another?
Paul Thomas Anderson’s last film was Licorice Pizza back in 2021. Known for collaborating mostly with Daniel Day-Lewis, One Battle After Another is set to be his first collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio. Anderson is known for creating mind-bending dramas full of characters with a deeply affected psyche. But will One Battle After the Other follow the same Template?
The movie is rumored to be loosely inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel, Vineland. Set in 1984, Vineland chronicles the year Ronald Reagan was reelected. The novel details the 1960s counterculture era clashing with Reagan’s conservative wave. However, Anderson’s film brings the setting to a more contemporary timeline.
The film will follow Bob and his fellow activists as they try to save his daughter while getting pursued by Col. Steve J. Lockjaw. Alleged to be a mirror to modern-day America, One Battle After Another will reportedly explore issues like racial inequality, the personal cost of activism, government distrust, and more. It is said to be the closest to a commercial action film one can get from Anderson.
This is also the second Anderson film based on one of Thomas Pynchon’s novels. The 2009 Joaquin Phoenix starrer Inherent Vice was the first one.

Is There a Trailer for One Battle After Another?
The trailer, which Leonardo DiCaprio launched on his new YouTube channel, shows DiCaprio's character, Bob Ferguson, on a mission to save his daughter. In the first scene he enters a grocery store wearing a red and black robe. He appears disoriented and after stealing a pair of shades from the rack, he walks out and uses the pay phone outside to call someone.
Ferguson then uses the pay phone outside to call someone while trying to remember what code words to use. He says that he was a part of “French ‘75.” In the trailer, we then see DiCaprio’s character holding a duffle bag and dressed in a dark hoodie, probably to avoid suspicion.
Other characters also appear in the trailer as we see a pregnant woman shooting a gun while Regina Hall and DiCaprio’s characters cover their ears. Del Toro seems to be playing a mentor figure to DiCaprio’s character, teaching him to live fearlessly. This also seems to mean getting thrown out of a moving vehicle.
One woman seems to tell Ferguson that he is unsuitable for her daughter, who comes from a long line of revolutionaries. Then she asks him, what he will do about the child. The trailer is filled with revolution, emotion, and high-speed chase sequences as Leonardo DiCaprio’s Bob Ferguson goes on the hunt to bring back his daughter.

Filming Details
One Battle After Another was filmed from Jan. 21, 2024, to Jul. 30, 2024. Filming locations include Arcata, Trinidad, and Sacramento in California. Shooting also happened in El Paso in Texas.
