Good American Family Episode 3 Ending Explained: Natalia Grace Hides Devastating Secrets 

Viewers have responded positively to the first two episodes of Good American Family. Since the show's premiere, fans have been curious about Natalia Grace’s real-life case. Now, episode 3 is here, and it has deepened the mystery of what’s going on with Natalia as Kristine tries to figure out whether she is a girl or a woman. 

Meanwhile, this search for truth is driving a wedge between Kristine and her husband Michael, who refuses to leave Natalia’s side. In this article, we will discuss what happened in Good American Family, episode 3. 

Kristine Thinks Natalia is an Adult Woman

In episode 3 of Good American Family, Kristine becomes desperate to find Natalia’s truth. But her husband, Michael, refuses to take part in these searches and instead thinks that his wife is making a mountain out of a molehill. This creates a rift between them. 

But Kristine is determined and finds something interesting- that Natalia is showing signs of puberty in women. She asks a doctor about it, but he isn’t able to confirm her age. However, he does confirm that she needs a lot of surgeries and hasn't had any done till now. This shocks the Barnetts because they thought that her surgeries were already done. 

After all, they paid seven grand to the adoption center called First Path. Kristine’s suspicions rise further when she finds out that the adoption agency has closed down. Also, the cases against the agency are proof enough for her to conclude that her family was duped. With Natalia’s behavior at home worsening, Kristine can barely tolerate her anymore. 

Reactive Attachment Disorder and Tough Love

Michael isn’t on board with Kristine’s obsession over proving that Natalia is an adult. He instead continues with what a therapist told him- that she has Reactive Attachment Disorder. As per Mayo Clinic, that means:

"Reactive attachment disorder is a rare but serious condition in which an infant or young child doesn't establish healthy attachments with parents or caregivers. Reactive attachment disorder may develop if the child's basic needs for comfort, affection and nurturing aren't met and loving, caring, stable attachments with others are not established." 

So, as advised, Michael plans to treat her like an infant and begin the process of building trust with her. But Kristine is well past this and decides that she won’t treat her like a kid anymore. Instead, she uses tough love to knock some sense into Natalia. 

However, this process backfires, and Natalia lashes out by revealing to her that Michael is unemployed and has been so for the past few months since his company shut down. Kristine is taken aback by this news since he never disclosed this to her. 

Kristine Thinks her Family was Duped

Kristine had requested a copy of Natalia’s immigration documents with the hopes of finding out her real birth year. However, she was shocked to find that the girl on the document seemed to be someone else entirely. But when she tells Michael this, he doesn’t see it. 

However, the document does contain the address of the family who first adopted her straight out of Ukraine. Kristine visits them and they reveal a shocking information. The reason they left Natalia is because the girl became too dangerous for them to be around. The woman Kristine talks to also says that she isn’t surprised that First Path closed down. 

With this new information, Kristine decides on two things- one, to get Natalia out of their family, and two, to stop stressing over the seven grand, which is already lost.

Michael and Kristine can’t Agree on a Common Ground 

Kristine updates Michael on her findings but he doesn’t accept it. He also threatens to tell everyone that she has given up on Natalia and wants to put her in a psychiatric facility. She retaliates by telling him that Natalia disclosed his unemployment to her. But even this doesn’t move Michael, and he says that he will stay by her side to ensure that she doesn’t harm anyone.
