Apple has released a number of red products under the PRODUCT (RED) lineup, but it seems like the tech giant is set to release red iPhone variants of the XS and XS Max in China without the (RED) branding. Rumors around the upcoming product first surfaced when a Weibo post was discovered.

iPhone sales have been poor in not just China but in various markets. Apple has failed to live up to its own sales expectations and has had to adjust its revenue goals for this quarter. The new phones will be marketed as “China Red” variants, and we can expect the devices to be launched later this year.

This is not the first time that Apple has done something like this. Prior to the iPhone XS and XS Max, the tech giant also dropped the PRODUCT (RED) tag from the iPhone 7 and 8 and offered the red variants as normal color options in the Asian country.

PRODUCT (RED) variants of Apple products have been in the making for thirteen years. Each sale of a (RED) product sees a percentage of the profit contributed to the (RED) Global Fund for HIV/AIDS. According to reports, Apple does not market its campaign for HIV/AIDS in China due as HIV/AIDS is seen as a consequence of Western countries coming in contact with China.

If the rumors surrounding Apple releasing red variants of the latest iPhones in China are true, it means that there will be PRODUCT (RED) variants of the devices globally as well. With a number of Chinese manufacturers set to release its flagship products in the next few months, Apple seeks to rival the upcoming devices with the recolored devices.
