Go! is a six-part series created and directed by South African filmmaker Tristan Holmes, known for his Academy Award-winning short film Elalini and the film The Fragile King.
The show is produced by Ten30 Pictures and showrun by Kutlwano Ditsele, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Thuli Zuma and Adam Thal. The series, written by Thuli Zuma, Tristan Holmes, Julian Koboekae, Thato Dipholo, and Lindo Buthelezi, marks Ditsele’s return to TV after a brief hiatus.
The series’ development began with a vision from Ditsele and head writer Thuli Zuma, whose previous work includes the successful Showmax original The Wife. In contrast to South Africa’s challenging economic environment, Ditsele sought to secure ownership and creative control by securing private investors rather than relying on pre-licensing agreements with broadcasters or streaming platforms.
Setting a $1 million budget for the six episodes, Ditsele caught the attention of Netflix, which, as he recalls, “literally picked up the phone” during the pilot phase and declared, “Don’t speak to anybody else. We want this show.” (via Variety)
With the series sold to Netflix, Ditsele is now working towards a larger goal, targeting a 250 million rand ($13.7 million) funding round to expand Ten30’s operations. The company’s growing slate includes the medical drama Clinical and the road drama Imbali ne iNkabi, with a second season of GO! already in development.
Ditsele is also working on a large-scale project with a U.S. studio, expanding his creative reach internationally. He believes that GO! exemplifies Ten30’s goal of creating bold, compelling content.
