It’s hard to believe that it has been more than two decades since Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan starred in the 2003 hit film Freaky Friday, based on Mary Rodgers’s 1972 novel of the same name. Now, they are back in Freakier Friday!
In the first film, Lohan starred as Anna Coleman, who magically swapped bodies with her mother, Tess Coleman, played by Curtis. So, what happens in the sequel? How do they swap bodies this time around? The trailer hints at how it happens.Â
In the trailer for Freakier Friday, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan’s characters visit a psychic played by Vanessa Bayer. She tells them that their lifelines have crossed before. Lohan and Curtis act clueless about it. There is a body swap this time around, as well.Â
But this time, it’s with Anna's biological teenage daughter and her soon-to-be stepdaughter. Yes, the sequel has four characters. It looks like the mother-and-daughter lesson will be passed on to Anna and her daughter. Interestingly, Tess and the stepdaughter will swap too.
Fans hope to see Anna’s daughter be a mini-me of her. But the trailer doesn’t give any of that away. But how do they swap this time? Eagle-eyed fans have already noticed that the mother of the Chinese restaurant owner who gave the fortune cookie in the first film shows up next to the DJ.Â
So, maybe she is behind the body swaps again. The Freakier Friday trailer presents a very nostalgic tone, and it brings back plenty of characters from the first film, like Chad Michael Murray’s Jake, the mean professor, the band, and more. Check out the fun-filled trailer below:Â
Freakier Friday premieres on August 8, 2025, and Freaky Friday is currently streaming on Disney+.
