The Studio is a comedy series co-created by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez. Rogen and Goldberg, who are no strangers to blending humor with social commentary, bring their unique perspective on Hollywood to this project.
The series is executive produced by Rogen and Goldberg through their Point Grey Pictures, alongside James Weaver, Alex McAtee, Josh Fagen, Perez, Huyck, and Gregory. It’s produced by Lionsgate Television and began filming in March 2024.
In a recent cover story with Esquire, Rogen shared why a studio head is such an ideal character for comedy: “It’s a very funny role to me... seeing the panic and the joy and the pride that comes with success, and the risk mitigation.”
He also revealed the creative choice behind filming each scene in one long tracking shot. "We wanted the show to have an immersive, manic energy to it... we wanted to throw you into it and create this sort of unpredictable, uneasy energy," said Rogen. So, the cinematography is designed to reflect the chaos of Hollywood, aiming to capture the stress and panic that accompany the filmmaking process.
Rogen and Goldberg’s goal was to populate the show with top-tier names to create a more authentic portrayal of a Hollywood studio. "We wanted to use people that you believe a studio would get excited about," said Rogen, citing their casting process and the involvement of stars like Martin Scorsese and Charlize Theron. The result is a show that's not just a satire but an exploration of the pressure, failure, and triumph that defines Hollywood. As Rogen and Goldberg put it, “We wanted to make a show that was as funny, stressful, frustrating, uncomfortable and ultimately, as joyous as life in Hollywood can be." (via Parade)
