What is the plot of Wolf King?

Netflix’s Wolf King is a stylized fantasy adventure based on Curtis Jobling’s Wereworld book series. The story follows 16-year-old Drew Ferran, a commoner who discovers he is the last living heir of a legendary werewolf bloodline and the rightful ruler of a land governed by Werelords.

However, Drew is reluctant to embrace his destiny and must embark on a dangerous journey to overthrow the tyrannical Lionlords and reclaim the throne. Set in a realm dominated by ruthless rulers, Wolf King chronicles Drew’s coming-of-age story as he learns to harness his newfound abilities and unite the kingdom against King Leopold and Prince Lucas.

The series captures the epic struggle between powerful shapeshifters, where Werelords—including bears, lions, and serpents—battle for dominance. As Drew fights to abolish the Lionlords’ reign, he must also navigate a world filled with enemies determined to see him fall.

Behind the Scenes

Wolf King is an upcoming animated series directed by Tom Brass. The show is produced by Lime Pictures in collaboration with Jellyfish Pictures and Assemblage Entertainment. The series features a talented creative team, including writers Andrew Burrell and Celia Morgan, with Tom Haines composing the music.

Jobling’s Wereworld series, which was published between 2011 and 2013, spans six novels. It remains unclear if the first season will adapt only the first book, Rise of the Wolf, or incorporate elements from multiple installments.

However, Jobling has stated on his website that he is “adapting all six novels as lead writer and associate producer.” If successful, Wolf King could follow a “one season – one book” format, allowing the full saga to unfold over multiple seasons. (via What’s on Netflix)

Lime Pictures' Tim Compton, Angelo Abela, Curtis Jobling, and Barry Quinn serve as producers, with Compton calling it a “privilege” to adapt the books for Netflix. (via Lime Pictures)

Curtis’ Wereworld book series is a truly distinctive epic,” he shared, expressing excitement for viewers to explore its world. Abela added that Lime Pictures was approached to bring an animated project to life after their work on Free Rein and Zero Chill, describing Wolf King as “striking and special.”

Jobling reflected on the journey, stating, “Until Lime Pictures and Netflix knocked on my door four years ago, I would never have dreamt that we’d see my Wereworld books make the transition from page to screen.”
