What is the plot of The Wheel of Time Season 3?

Season three of The Wheel of Time primarily adapts The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in Robert Jordan’s series. This fan-favorite storyline takes viewers to new and captivating locations across the fictional continent of the Westlands, including the vast deserts of the Aiel Waste, the dangerous port city of Tanchico, and the ancient, fog-shrouded city of Rhuidean.

As Rand’s past unravels and his corrupted power grows, he will become increasingly unrecognizable to those closest to him, including Moiraine and Egwene. These powerful women, who once had a teacher-student relationship, now must unite to stop the Dragon from turning to Darkness, no matter the cost.

This season will explore Rand's struggle with his identity and power. His journey through the Aiel Waste and his encounters with the Aiel people, who believe him to be the prophesied Car'a'carn, will be a key focus.

The season will also introduce Moghedien, a new member of the Forsaken who has been set up as a dangerous antagonist for the coming episodes. In addition to the ongoing battle against the Forsaken, the White Tower remains in turmoil, and the Black Ajah is sowing chaos.

As showrunner Rafe Judkins teased on X, "S3 is even more sophisticated and rich and deep than S2," with the first 15 minutes being one of the most action-packed sequences he’s ever seen on television. As of now, Amazon has not officially renewed The Wheel of Time for a fourth season, and its future remains uncertain. 

Filming & Production

Filming for the third season began on April 17, 2023, in Czechia and concluded on March 22, 2024. In March 2024, Amazon released a short teaser confirming that filming for The Wheel of Time season three had wrapped.
