Microsoft has begun teasing its HoloLens 2 for launch with a 42-second video being posted ahead of the company’s press event scheduled on February 24th. The tech giant will be going on stage at the Mobile World Congress 2019 to reveal the mixed reality glasses. The upcoming headset will head to head against the likes of Oculus Go, Samsung Gear VR, and HTC Vive.

The video teaser showed off a custom AI chip that has been designed specifically for the HoloLens 2. The new headset is also expected to come with the latest Kinect sensor. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 850 ARM processor will be powering the new headset according to reports, and a custom version of Microsoft’s Windows OS will be available on the software side of things.

The first-generation HoloLens was a massive success with Microsoft receiving a $480 million contract from the US army for special HoloLens. While the consumer market will not be getting access to the special glasses with thermal sensing and night vision, we will get access to the upgraded second-generation HoloLens.

Microsoft’s launch of the HoloLens 2 is expected at the company’s press event on February 24th at 5 PM CET (11 AM ET). The event will be conducted by CEO Satya Nadella, technical fellow Alex Kipman, and CVP Julia White. The tech giant has been working on the new device for years under the codename “Sydney.”

Industry experts suggest that an enhanced field of view and a lighter feature can be expected from the upcoming HoloLens 2. One of the biggest issues of the first-generation headset was its bulky build, which made it difficult for many users to wear for long periods of time.
