Neighbours: Why was it Cancelled Again and When will the last Episodes air?

The Australian soap, Neighbours, has been running on TV screens for four decades. Multiple celebrities like Margot Robbie, Jason Donovan, and more got their start in this show. About two years ago, it was axed but then revived again. But unfortunately, it looks like this time it is final. So, why has Neighbours been cancelled again? In this article, we will discuss that. 

Why was Neighbours axed Again?

Neighbours has been cancelled again. The Sun reported that this is because Amazon informed Fremantle that their foray into soaps hasn’t yielded the desired results and so they are pulling funding. 

A source for The Sun said: “Amazon gave Fremantle two years to see if it worked but sadly they just didn’t get the viewers. It’s a really sad day especially for the cast and crew who work on the show in Melbourne. This really is the end of Neighbours just as it’s celebrated its 40th birthday.”

An official statement (via The Guardian) reads, “We are sad to announce that Neighbours will be resting from December 2025.”

Neighbours was first cancelled in 2022 when Fremantle initially failed to secure a UK broadcaster after Channel 5 backed out due to financial reasons. A long fan campaign resulted in Amazon stepping in with plans for a reboot of the show called Neighbours: A New Chapter launching in 2023. 

With Amazon withdrawing their support, the show will be looking to get another international sale or streaming deal to save it. Ten had previously stated that it wasn’t financially viable for them to fund it alone.

A spokesperson for Ten said, “It is a mighty achievement that the series will reach the 40-year milestone next month. The program will be missed by the fans and the people who have been part of this amazing journey. We wish them well.”

When will Neighbours air its last Episodes?

Neighbours will wrap production in July. New episodes will air on Amazon Prime Video globally and Australia’s Channel Ten four times a week until the end of 2025.
