5 suspects, 1 forgotten case, and a human spine. Who is behind it all? Unforgotten series 6 is here and Sinéad Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar are back as Jess and Sunny to solve more cold cases. In this episode, they focus on the human remains that have been discovered on Whitney Marsh. So, who are the people who might have committed the crime? In this article, we will discuss the episode in detail.Â
Unforgotten series 6 episode 1 begins with Sunny heading to Whitney Marsh once he gets news that a spine, has been discovered there. He also calls Jess and once there, Dr Balcombe informs both that this is a recent case.Â
She tells them that the rods inserted in the spine were used to treat scoliosis between the '70s and the '90s. So, she can date the bones to the last half-century. Additionally, the cut marks on the spine make it clear that when the body was dismembered before putting the remains in the marsh.Â
As such, it wasn’t a case of someone falling in and drowning. The search for the missing remains yield some positive results. They find a male leg wrapped in bin bags. Dr Balcombe reveals that the person was likely killed by a knife to the upper thigh.Â
She takes bone samples from the spine and the leg to see if they belong to the same person. Luckily, they do, and the DNA matches someone called Gerrard Samuel Cooper who was reported as missing on Wednesday, 24 February 2021, at the age of 58.Â
His wife, Juliette, a lecturer, reported him missing. Sunny also lets Jess know that there was an investigation into the case, but nothing was found so it was determined that he had taken his life. However, the OIC involved with the case was jailed in 2022 on corruption charges. That isn’t all, Sunny charged the man himself, and he is called Ram Sidhu.Â
