Will Sweet Magnolias Season 5 Happen?

Sweet Magnolia season four's explosive ending left viewers in shock and awe. The show follows three friends- Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott), and Helen (Heather Headley) as they navigate life in Serenity. From romances to time jumps and career worries, this sweet show has been loved by many for its cozy premise. But will it be coming back for season five? In this article, we will explore that.

Will There be a Season 5 of Sweet Magnolias?

Sweet Magnolias has not been renewed for season 5 at the time of writing. This makes sense because season four of the show has just been released on the streaming service. However, there is a strong possibility that the show may come back for another season. 

Showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson revealed in an interview with Tudum that she wants to make another season as there are multiple storylines that could be explored further. One such storyline is the one where the question is raised of how will other characters carry on after Maddie leaves for her job in New York City. 

The showrunner said, “...the reason we even raised the question here at the end of season 4 was because we feel so many women are confronted with, ‘Am I allowed to put myself first this one time?’”

Anderson further explained, “And how complicated it is for somebody like Maddie, with a new marriage, with kids still in the house, with dear, dear friends that you have seen every day your entire life. She’s so deeply woven into the community. Does that mean she has to say no to a dream?”

Apart from this there is also the question of how Dana's new cooking school will go and how Helen’ life will shape up after Erik’s proposal. That’s not all. Annie and Ty’s relationship is also at crossroads after Annie rejected following him on his tour and instead opted to go to her dream school in California. 

So, there’s a lot happening in Serenity and we could potentially see the show follow Annie in California and Maddie in New York City.
