What is the plot of Kinda Pregnant?

In Kinda Pregnant, Amy Schumer plays Lainy Newton, a single woman and English teacher who, after feeling jealous of her best friend Kate's pregnancy, decides to wear a fake baby bump. 

This leads to a series of comedic events, especially when she unexpectedly meets the man of her dreams, played by Will Forte. As her deception grows, Lainy finds herself in increasingly absurd situations to keep up the charade.

The film explores Lainy's struggle with the lie, which starts as a simple way to cope with her jealousy but spirals out of control. She inadvertently finds love, all while juggling the increasingly complicated nature of her fake pregnancy. In the trailer for Kinda Pregnant, Lainy finds herself in a tangled web of lies when she fakes a pregnancy. "Do you ever tell, like, such a big lie you don’t know how to get out of it?" she asks, setting the tone for the chaos to follow. As she dives deeper into her fake pregnancy and new relationship, things get hilariously out of hand.

At one point, Lainy jokingly asks, “Have you ever dated a pregnant woman?" To this, Will responds, "You’re the least pregnant person I’ve ever dated. " Meanwhile, Lainy’s fake belly endures some wild moments, from face-planting during yoga to accidentally setting it on fire.

Her friend, played by comedian Urzila Carlson, doesn’t hold back, warning Lainy: “How dare you walk around with that fake f***ing belly? What if someone you know catches you?” Through all the antics, Lainy struggles to keep her secret, but the lies may just come back to bite her.

Filming began in Brooklyn, New York, in February and concluded on May 4, 2024.

Behind the Scenes

Tyler Spindel, known for The Out-Laws and Father of the Year, directs the new film, produced by Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions. The screenplay is by Schumer and Julie Paiva, with Schumer also producing alongside Sandler, Tim Herlihy, Judit Maull, Kevin Grady, Eli Thomas, and Alex Saks.

The film features appearances from Adam Sandler's wife Jackie and daughter Sunny. Executive producers include Barry Bernardi, Michael D. Robins, and Kevin Kane. The music is by Rupert Gregson-Williams.
