Prison Cell 211 follows an unfortunate human rights lawyer whose day turns into a nightmare when he finds himself trapped and helpless during a prison riot. If the prisoners find out who he is, it’s game over for him. So he will have to pose as an inmate and gain the trust of the prisoners to get out of the hellhole.Â
But can he actually blend in among the people who have committed some of the most heinous crimes? Or will he find out that he’s not as good as he pretends to be and that being among the worst of society brings out a darkness in him? This show is inspired by true events.Â
It is reportedly based on the 2023 prison riots that happened in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. On January 1, 2023, multiple armored vehicles stormed the Cereso number 3 state prison in Juárez. Gang members opened fire on the prison guards and the prisoners began a riot.Â
Multiple guards, gang members, and inmates were killed in the rush to escape. It was chaos, violence, and bloodshed. Also, Prison Cell 211 seems to have a resemblance to Cell 211, a 2009 Spanish-French film. The critically acclaimed film follows a prison guard who finds himself trapped in a prison riot on his first day.Â
The trailer for Prison Cell 211 begins with a human rights attorney heading to prison to meet an inmate even though his partner warns him to spend less time there. Soon there’s chaos and a prisoner makes it clear to him that he’s either with them or dead. Check it out below:Â
