The threat intelligence platform Falcon Feeds suffered a crypto scam after having its social media account hacked despite having multifactor authentication (MFA) enabled. The scammers took control of the firm's X formerly Twitter account and posted a fraudulent tweet almost every minute.

Being a threat intelligence platform, every security protocols was followed, yet the account was exploited for hours between January 23 and January 24, 2025.

Nandakishore Harikumar, CEO of the cybersecurity firm Technisanct and Falcon Feeds tweeted about the exploitation saying that the crypto-related posts on their platform were a scam.

After over 7 hours of mitigation effort they confirmed that X successfully locked access to the FalconFeeds account, thereby stopping the scammers from posting any further.

The incident comes after months of persistent, multi-vector attacks targeting us for exposing threat actors and their false claims,” read a tweet by Falcon Feeds addressing the cyber attack.

Several threat intelligence analysts and researchers came forward in support of Falcon Feeds and helped spread the word about the account hijacking.

Dominic Alvieri, cybersecurity analyst and malware repository platform vx-underground tweeted a warning about the incident.

We contacted Dominic for a statement addressing the incident to which he replied, “I’m glad they got their account back. Sadly anyone can have their socials hacked even NASDAQ X got compromised this week. It’s actually not a difficult hack logging in to someone’s account.” This brings to mind the perils of dark web reporting that looms over them.

Threat intelligence teams, researchers, cybercrime reporters, cybersecurity companies, software providers, and government agencies are common targets of hackers. Yet, they strive and continue to do the right thing.

As soon as the Falcon Feeds team regained access to their account, they got back to reporting. It is this gumption that threat intelligence providers possess and the spirit with which they take up the gigantic task every day.
