Landman ended its first season with an explosive finale that packed a punch! However, it’s time to break down all that happened. In this article, we will recap the Landman season finale ending and then also discuss the fates of the major characters.
The Crumbs of Hope is the season finale episode of Paramount+’s drama show, Landman. In it, Tommy Norris is named president of M-Tex by Monty Miller. Until Monty gets a heart transplant, Tommy will be the boss. For now, Monty is kept under medical observation, with various equipment keeping him alive.
Until Monty recovers, Tommy must operate the firm for Cami and her two kids. His first business is the farm-out, worth upwards of $160 million. The extremely risky project can bankrupt the Millers, and Tommy tells Cami about this. However, Cami decides to gamble on the odds, and after this, Tommy explains to Rebecca Falcone how to renegotiate the farm-out deal.
He tells her they won’t be spending $160 million on nine oil wells with the possibility of getting nothing back in return. After this, Tommy gets kidnapped by Jimenez and his gang. The drug dealer blasts multiple oil wells without knowing that there’s an alarm system that will keep the authorities at the crime scene and thus affect the drug cartel immensely.
However, once he realizes this, he hurts Tommy a lot. But before he can deliver the final blow, Gallino shows up. He is Jimenez’s boss and a leader of an international drug gang. Gallino saves Tommy because he wants to avoid bringing unnecessary attention to the oil digs, which are also a significant part of his drug territory.
Gallino and Tommy agree to maintain peace because the former wants his drug business to flourish, and the latter won’t gain anything if the oil wells keep exploding. Also, the Landman season finale hints that Gallino wants to be an oil businessman as well so that he can use his influence to protect his cartel matters.
In the finale, we see Tommy tell a coyote that shows up in his front yard it should run away because the land isn’t a place where it can stay alive or thrive. It probably means that existence is bound by sets of rules that one has to follow. For Tommy, it’s about playing by the rules and creating alliances because when he tried to handle the problems his way, he was almost killed.
As the new boss of M-Tex, his hands are tied more than ever before. The coyote too needs to understand that it has to play by the rules of man and that it doesn’t have any independence to act like it did before. If it does, then it will be killed just like another coyote was.
At the end of the Landman season finale, we see Cami and her children crying beside Monty Miller’s bed. The heart monitor shows that he has flatlined, so Monty has indeed passed away. This ending isn’t surprising since he was under stress due to his occupation and suffered five heart attacks. He also had to undergo several bypass surgeries.
In an interview with TV Insider, series co-creator Christian Wallace said about Monty’s end, “Yeah, you kind of drop these little pieces throughout the entire season. There’s Monty checking his heart rate on his watch or his wife Cami telling him no more coffee and just little things that were dropped this entire time to kind of let you know that something’s going on so that when it does finally happen, it’s not just completely out of nowhere.”
It looks like gradually, Ryder is becoming Ainsley’s serious boyfriend, something that she never had before. Also through his actions, Ryder has shown that she matters to him and he is ready to do anything, even tolerate Tommy’s wrath for her.
Yes, it does seem like Cooper and Ariana will make it. Cooper provides Ariana a shoulder to cry on when she remembers her late husband, Elvio. This allows her to process her grief with a partner who understands her rather than demands that she move on from him.
As for what Cooper is up to next, Christian Wallace says, “Cooper is basically trying to strike out on his own and start building his own oil company, slowly but surely, and it starts with the landman, procuring leases, and that’s what Cooper is kind of stepping into, the role that his father has played for all these years.”
Landman season 1 is streaming on Paramount+. We also know what’s the status of Landman season 2 is for now.
