After 20 years, The Simpsons will be leaving Channel 4. The American animated series has been airing since 1989 with more than 750 episodes broadcasted till date. It has been airing on Channel 4 since 2004.
Every night, fans have tuned into Channel 4 at 6:30 P.M. to watch the show. But that will be over now. Channel 4 has revealed that it is embracing the “generational shift that is taking place in TV viewing to reach younger viewers, who engage with both the popular entertainment channel E4, and streaming platforms.”
Channel 4’s head of acquisitions Polly Scates said in a Press Release, “In an evolving market, collaboration has never felt more important, and it’s been a pleasure working with Disney Entertainment to bring the latest seasons to UK viewers, who can now watch the show on E4 and C4 Streaming once it has aired on Disney Plus.”
The Simpsons episodes will be available on Channel 4’s online platform for a limited time for streaming. But after that, to watch The Simpsons, fans will have to head over to Disney Plus as the new episodes will steam there exclusively.
Episodes from season 36 of The Simpsons will air at the same time as the US in the UK. Every The Simpsons episode is already available on Disney Plus along with the 2007 film.
Also, from January 2025, E4 will be the new home of The Simpsons on linear TV. Episodes from season 32 will be airing on the channel. Free-to-air TV will be getting some episodes of The Simpsons, but they will be behind a few seasons.
