DC Universe is slowly taking off with the success of Creature Commandos. Adding to this is the popularity of The Penguin series on Max. As such, DC Studios has greenlit a new project about Clayface with Mike Flanagan at the forefront. In this article, we will discuss everything we know about it.

DC Studios Orders a Clayface Project with Mike Flanagan

Deadline reports that DC Studios has greenlit a Clayface project and Mike Flanagan has been tapped to write the script. The news comes more than a year after Flanagan pitched his take on the Batman villain.

Flanagan first expressed his interest in making a standalone Clayface project in 2021 when he took to X (formerly Twitter) to post, “really keen to do a standalone Clayface movie as a horror/thriller/tragedy.” In 2023, he reaffirmed his interest and pitched the project to DC.

The outlet has also confirmed that no director is attached to the project yet, but a search is ongoing. Also, since Flanagan is currently busy writing and directing a new take on The Exorcist for Universal, so it might take some time for the Clayface project to go on the floors. He is also developing an adaptation of Stephen King's novel Carrie. It is meant to be a series for Amazon MGM Studios.

What will the Clayface Adaptation be About?

Clayface first appeared in DC comics in June of 1940 as part of issue 40 of Detective Comics. Although the character has undergone multiple changes over the decades, but the first version of Clayface was a successful actor who adopted the moniker after turning to a life of crime.

Deadline reported back in March 2023, that Mike Flanagan’s version of Clayface won’t feature the shapeshifter as a villain. Apart from this take on the character, it has been rumored that Clayface will feature in Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman 2.
