American Primeval is a six-episode series that will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.
American Primeval, as the name hints, explores America in 1857. The weather is harsh and survival with family is a herculean task. Amid this, war is brewing and whatever safe havens were there before don’t exist anymore. In this violent era, a woman sets out with her son to find her husband in the frontier.
Along the way, they meet a man who agrees to help them out. Together, this group will have to traverse a land where its every man for himself and everyone is trying to setup their own kingdom. In an interview with TUDUM, director and executive producer Pete Berg said, “I’m looking forward to taking viewers into the most dynamic, intense, and heart-pounding survival tale humanly possible. We are going into the belly of the beast.”
The trailer shows Sara Rowell journeying out with her son Devin in search of her husband. But in 1857, it is not an easy task, especially for a woman. She even says, “Doesn’t seem to be a world that favors a woman on her own.” To this, a man replies, “Civilization and civilized are two different words entirely.”
Thankfully, Isaac is there with her to help her out. But even he knows how dangerous the frontier is. A voiceover lists out exactly what this ragtag group will have to face, “If these natives here don’t murder you, you got the Wasatch range, grizzlies, wolves, riled-up Mormons.” Check out the trailer here:
