What is the plot of Snow White 2025?
The latest live-action version of Snow White reimagines the classic 1937 animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, but with a modern twist. In the original animated movie, we follow the titular heroine as she lives under the thumb of the oppressive evil queen. But one day, when the queen comes after her, she flees to the enchanted jungle and meets the animals there.
They lead her to the cottage of the seven dwarves and Snow White then falls asleep in their home. Gradually, she befriends all the dwarves and together, they plan on defeating the evil queen and getting the kingdom back. But it is not that easy as the queen transforms into an old woman and tricks Snow White into eating a poisoned apple that puts her in a deep sleep that she cannot be woken from until she gets kissed by her true love, the Prince Charming.
It seems like the 2025 film follows the same storyline but with some modern twists. In the trailer, there are shots of Snow White riding a horse and the prince is shown minimally. As such, it does seem like it’s an empowering take on the classic story.

Filming
Filing for Snow White was originally planned to begin in March 2020 but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Principal photography began on Mar. 7, 2022 at Pinewood Studios, but on Mar. 15, the production set was damaged due to fire. Filming wrapped on July 13, 2022. Additional filming happened in June 2024.
What are the Controversies Surrounding Snow White 2025?
The Snow White film has been mired in multiple controversies even before the first teaser was released. It began with multiple people online taking offense when Rachel Zegler in an interview with Variety described the modern take on the classic story as, “I just mean that it’s no longer 1937. We absolutely wrote a ‘Snow White’ that ... she’s not going to be saved by the prince.”
She further said, “she’s not going to be dreaming about true love; she’s going to be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave and true.”
People also scrutinized another interview at the D23 Expo where Zegler described Prince Charming as a stalker The actress also said that the film avoids falling into the pittraps of the old tropes that were seen in the first film.
Online, people also slammed the actress when in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she said that she watched the original animated film once and then never picked it up again because it scared her. The trailer for the film currently has 24k likes and more than 400k dislikes on YouTube.
Is Disney canceling Snow White?
No, Disney is not canceling its upcoming Snow White live-action film adaptation. There has been no official confirmation that Disney is shelving the finished film which is months away from release like Warner Bros did with the ill-fated Batgirl film.
