Release date & Where to Watch

Season two of Peacemaker is expected to premiere on Max in 2025 with an eight-episode lineup. While an exact release date hasn’t been announced, creator James Gunn has indicated that it will return sometime after the release of his highly anticipated Superman: Legacy film, scheduled for July 11, 2025. This hints that Peacemaker could join the late 2025 TV lineup, possibly by fall or winter.

Plot

The show centers on Christopher Smith, also known as Peacemaker, a vigilante who believes in achieving peace by any means necessary, even if it involves violence.

Joined by a team of specialized agents, Peacemaker faces both external threats and inner conflicts. Leota Adebayo, the newest team member, and Amanda Waller's daughter, brings a fresh perspective to the group, while Emilia Harcourt lends her tactical expertise. John Economos serves as the team's tech support, and Vigilante, another costumed fighter, shares Peacemaker's enthusiasm for extreme justice.

The second season also introduces Rick Flag Sr. and new ARGUS agent Langston Fluery, adding further layers to the group’s mission and dynamic. Together, they tackle high-stakes missions, testing Peacemaker's commitment to his idea of peace.

Is There a Trailer for Peacemaker Season 2?

Sadly, there’s no trailer for season two of Peacemaker yet, and we probably won’t get one until next year. The show has only just begun production.

Who is Peacemaker?

Christopher Smith, better known as Peacemaker, is a complex antihero from DC Comics who first appeared in 1966 as a pacifist dedicated to preserving peace at any cost. Initially, he used non-lethal methods, but over time, he evolved into a violent vigilante willing to kill at the slightest provocation to achieve his goals.

In the DCEU, John Cena’s portrayal of Peacemaker draws from the darker, post-Crisis version of the character. Here, Smith is a criminal serving time at Belle Reve prison who is recruited by Amanda Waller to join the Suicide Squad on a dangerous mission in Corto Maltese. He ultimately betrays his team, working as Waller’s double agent to protect US secrets, and after killing Rick Flag, he’s gravely injured by Bloodsport, landing him in the hospital.

What are the Peacemaker Spin-offs?

One of the key Peacemaker spinoffs in the new DCU is Waller, a series focused on Amanda Waller, the government official and head of ARGUS, portrayed by Viola Davis. Announced by James Gunn, Waller will bring back Davis in her role, diving deeper into her character's involvement with the Suicide Squad and her influence within the DC universe. Fans can also expect characters from Peacemaker to make appearances in Waller, with Sasha Bordeaux likely among them. While no specific release date has been provided, production on Waller is set to begin after Peacemaker season two wraps.

Is Peacemaker Season 2 part of the DCU Or DCEU?

Yes, Peacemaker Season 2 will be part of the DCU rather than the DCEU. While Peacemaker season one was created within the DCEU framework, James Gunn has confirmed that the new season will be integrated into the rebooted DCU. This means that season two will connect to the fresh continuity Gunn is establishing across DC projects, even though season one remains part of the DCEU. Gunn has noted that the sequel season will carry over key story elements from season one, though certain details may shift to align with the DCU's updated direction.

Production & Filming

Peacemaker's highly anticipated season two was officially ordered in February 2022, following the success of its first season on Max. Despite shifts within DC Studios—like Gunn's appointment as co-chair and co-CEO in October 2022—his commitment to Peacemaker remained strong. While also developing the upcoming Superman film, Gunn has stayed fully involved with Peacemaker, which entered production in April 2024.

Production was confirmed on April 13, when Gunn shared a teaser photo of John Cena's iconic Peacemaker uniform on Threads. With Gunn directing Superman until August, filming for Peacemaker began in the summer, aligning with Gunn’s schedule. John Cena, the show’s star, mentioned in a September 2024 interview with Variety that he was “filming every day.” The extended gap between seasons was attributed to Gunn and Peter Safran’s focus on restructuring the DC Universe to align with their vision.

While filming continues, details on a wrap date for principal photography are still under wraps, with updates eagerly awaited by fans.

Behind the Scenes

Peacemaker season two is shaping up to bring back the same wild energy with some exciting new changes and creative additions. Series creator and DC Studios head James Gunn has written all eight episodes for the upcoming season, similar to his role in season one. However, unlike the first season, Gunn won't direct every episode to ensure a timely release. This time, he'll share directing duties with Superbad director Greg Mottola, who will lend his comedic style to a few episodes, along with Peter Sollett and Alethea Jones.

In a fun twist, the iconic and quirky opening title sequence, which quickly became a fan favorite, will return with a fresh look. Gunn confirmed in early 2024 that the intro will feature new characters and choreography, once again designed by Charissa Barton, who created the memorable dance sequence from season one.

With Gunn steering the series as both showrunner and writer, and contributions from acclaimed directors like Mottola, season two promises to retain the series' trademark irreverence, humor, and action, while adding some new surprises for fans.
