Twilight Animated Series Midnight Sun in Works: Release date, Where to Watch, & Everything we know so far

Netflix is developing an animated adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight spinoff Midnight Sun. The series will be based on the author's 2020 novel of the same name, which tells the story of the original Twilight from vampire heartthrob Edward Cullen's perspective.

Midnight Sun sold over 1 million copies in its first week of sale. During the book's release, Meyer wrote, "I hope this book gives my readers a little pleasure to anticipate and, after it arrives, a chance to live in an imaginary world for a while. I can’t express how much I appreciate the patience of my readers, and their support over the years it took to finish Midnight Sun."

Meyer previously revealed that she planned to write two more books to add to her vampire series. During a promotional event in August 2020, she said, "There are two more books I think in the world that I want to write. I have got them outlined and a chapter written I think of the first one, so I know it's there."

Midnight Sun is currently in development, so we don't have a release date yet. We will update this space once an official announcement is made. And when it comes out, you will be able to stream the series on Netflix.

Plot

Midnight Sun is a retelling of the first Twilight story from the perspective of Edward Cullen, the captivating vampire who catches the attention of a young Bella Swan. From this viewpoint, fans can gain insight into Edward's emotions and thoughts when he first saw Bella. He describes his experience of being near her, feeling the need to escape, and most importantly, he articulates how his life changed when he became a vampire and when he met Bella.

The story follows teenage Bella, who falls in love with her classmate Edward, a vampire. Heartbreak and carnage follow as she gets deeper into the vampire world, where vampires engage in battles with werewolves and other vampires.

Cast

There are no confirmed cast members for Midnight Sun as of now. Fans of Twilight movies hope that the original cast members, especially Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, will return to play their roles (rather, voice them).

Who's Making Midnight Sun?

Sinead Daly, a producer on The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Hulu's Tell Me Lies, is adapting the book. She previously wrote for The Get Down and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Meyer will be one of the executive producers of the series through her production company, Fickle Fish Films.
