Release date & Where to Watch

The Sex Lives of College Girls season three is set to premiere on Max in November 2024, continuing the tradition of November releases established by the first two seasons.

There hasn't been an official announcement on the episode count yet, but considering the first two seasons both had ten episodes, it's likely the third season will have a similar number.

Plot

The season two finale of The Sex Lives of College Girls set the stage for significant drama in season three. Kimberly and Canaan finally shared a kiss on campus, unaware that Whitney was watching, heartbroken. This betrayal prompted Whitney to march to her sorority house and request to move in, leaving one roommate down. Leighton, who recently dumped her girlfriend, Tatum, reunited with Alicia from season one but changed her mind about moving into the Kappa house after an alumnus made offensive remarks about queer and nonbinary people. Bela, after making a string of bad decisions, including savagely discouraging an aspiring comedy writer, requested to transfer schools following a bout of self-reflection. With two roommates potentially out, the friendships within the group are in peril.

Reneé Rapp's exit and Karrueche Tran's arrival in season three will likely shake things up. Noble hinted that Bela has a lot to figure out, possibly signaling her return to Essex College despite her request to transfer. Meanwhile, Kimberly and Whitney’s friendship is likely to be tested, but there’s hope they'll reconcile, although it might be a bumpy road. Whitney will have to confront the decisions she made after spotting Kimberly with Canaan, while Bela continues her journey of self-discovery.

Ilia Isorelys Paulino also hopes her character, Lila, gets more action in the new season, particularly in terms of body positivity and unapologetic self-love.

As the characters return for their sophomore year, they must navigate the fallout from season two. Whitney, Bela, and Leighton all face personal challenges and growth. The cast shakeups, unresolved tensions, and individual journeys promise a season filled with drama and self-discovery.

Official Trailer

There's no dedicated trailer for Sex Lives of College Girls season three just yet, but HBO has given us a sneak peek in a teaser for its upcoming 2024-2025 slate. Check the video from the 1:07 mark.

Is Reneé Rapp Leaving the show?

It seems so. On July 10, Deadline reported that Rapp would only appear in a "handful of episodes" in season three, after which she would no longer be a series regular and would depart from the show. Rapp later confirmed her exit on social media with a heartfelt note, expressing her gratitude. Rapp also shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming season, saying, "I'm so excited for this season, and I can't wait for you to see what we have coming for her and the girls.

What Happened at the end of Season 2?

The second season of the college drama wrapped up with plenty of tension. Whitney, on her way to confess her feelings to her ex-boyfriend Canaan, stumbled upon Kimberly kissing him in the college courtyard. Feeling betrayed, Whitney chose to move into her sorority house, leaving Kimberly—who she was supposed to live with next year—completely in the dark.

Bela’s conflicts, however, extended beyond her friend group. She sabotaged the co-founders of her feminist literary magazine, belittled a young writer, and cheated on her boyfriend. By the season's end, she was seriously considering transferring schools due to the backlash she faced.

Meanwhile, Leighton, who is set to be written off the show, seems to be the most stable of the group. She ditched Greek life, rekindled her relationship with her ex-girlfriend, but the fast pace of this new romance might bring its own challenges.

Is Sex Lives of College Girls Ending after Season 3?

The creators of Sex Lives of College Girls haven’t revealed any plans or timelines for concluding the show. Unlike Kaling's other hit series, Never Have I Ever, this one doesn't follow a structure where each season corresponds to a single school year—both seasons one and two covered the girls’ freshman year—leaving room for plenty more seasons ahead.
