The much-anticipated One Tree Hill sequel is officially in the works, bringing back beloved characters Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer. Fans are thrilled that original stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton are returning to their roles and also taking on the responsibilities of executive producers. This assures that the sequel will stay true to the spirit of the original series.

For those who’ve followed the show, One Tree Hill originally revolved around the rivalry between half-brothers Lucas and Nathan before expanding into a complex narrative of friendships, love, and family drama in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina. By the end of the nine-season journey, fans saw Lucas and Peyton married and starting a new life, while Brooke found love and family with Julian and their twin boys.

Now, 20 years later, the reboot promises to revisit Tree Hill, this time focusing on Brooke and Peyton as they navigate the challenges of raising teenagers. Alongside Bush and Burton, Danneel Ackles is reportedly in talks to return, with new characters set to join the drama-filled town.

Wondering who else might return or what new twists await? Get ready for a deep dive into everything we know so far. Keep checking back, as we’ll be updating this article with all the latest news and surprises as they unfold!

Release date & Where to Watch

The release date for the One Tree Hill sequel has yet to be announced, but we'll update this section as soon as it's confirmed. It is in early development at Netflix.

Plot

One Tree Hill originally aired in 2003. The series followed the lives of two half-brothers, Lucas and Nathan, as they navigated the complexities of high school and family dynamics. The series, which ran for nine seasons on The WB and later The CW, also focused on the deep friendships, romances, and struggles of characters like Brooke Davis, Peyton Sawyer, and Haley James Scott.

The sequel, set 20 years later, brings us back to Tree Hill, where Brooke and Peyton are now mothers of teenagers. The new series will explore the challenges they once faced—love, insecurities, and grief—but this time, through the lens of parenthood.

Brooke, who ended the original series married to Julian, is raising her twin sons, Davis and Jude, who will be featured as teens in the reboot. Meanwhile, Peyton is now married to Lucas, though Chad Michael Murray, who played Lucas, is reportedly not planning to return for the follow-up.

Danneel Ackles, who played Rachel Gatina, will be involved in the reboot as an executive producer and is in talks to reprise her role. The original creator, Mark Schwahn, has no involvement in the new series following public allegations of harassment made by several cast members, including Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush, who now co-host the popular "Drama Queens" podcast with Bethany Joy Lenz.

This new chapter of One Tree Hill promises to revisit the familiar struggles of the original series, now from the perspective of the parents we've come to love.

What Happened at the end of One Tree Hill?

One Tree Hill ended with the characters finding resolution and happiness after years of drama and growth. Lucas and Nathan, initially half-brothers with a tense relationship, had their bond strengthened over time. Lucas married Peyton, and they left Tree Hill together to start a family. Brooke, who began as Peyton’s best friend and later faced trials in love and friendship, found her own happiness by marrying Julian, with whom she had twin boys, Davis and Jude.

Haley, Lucas's best friend, married Nathan while they were still in high school, and they welcomed their son Jamie during their senior year. As the series concluded, the characters matured, Peyton and Brooke's friendship solidified, and Rachel Gatina, once Brooke’s rival, became a close friend and part of the group. The new series will see Brooke and Julian’s twins return as teenagers, continuing the legacy of the Tree Hill family.

Behind the Scenes
