An Anthony Bourdain biopic is in the works, and we now have news of who is going to be the leading man. The specific period of Bourdain's life that the biopic will cover is not yet clear.

The beloved chef was not only a popular TV personality, but also an avid explorer of international culture, cuisine, and the human condition. He was known for hosting No Reservations and Parts Unknown. He also authored a couple of books, including Bone in the Throat, and Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly.

Here's everything we know so far about Bourdain's biopic, Tony.

Who is Playing Bourdain?

Dominic Sessa, the breakout star from Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers, is reportedly going to portray the celebrity chef, author, and travel documentarian. He was dubbed one of Variety‘s 10 Actors to Watch in 2023.

Who is Making the Biopic?

Titled Tony, New York-based studio A24 is in discussions to acquire the film produced by Star Thrower Entertainment (The Post, King Richard, Eternity). Matt Johnson, the director and co-writer of BlackBerry, is speculated to direct the project.

Lou Howe and Todd Bartels wrote the movie's script. A24 is considering producing the film with Trevor White and Tim White under their Star Thrower banner, alongside Johnson and Matthew Miller. Emily Rose will be in charge of executive production.

How did Anthony Bourdain die?

Bourdain died by suicide in 2018 at the age of 61 at the Le Chambard Hotel in Kaysersberg-Vignoble, France. His body was discovered by Éric Ripert, a fellow chef who was filming with him at that time.

Previous Projects on Bourdain's life

Directed and produced by Morgan Neville, Roadrunner is a 2021 American documentary film about the chef. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 11, 2021, and was later released in the US on July 16, 2021. The film was well-received by critics but also sparked controversy due to its use of artificial intelligence technology to recreate Bourdain's voice in some audio clips.

A premiere date for the biopic hasn't been announced yet. We will update this article with new information as and when it becomes available.
