Plot

FX's English Teacher is a comedy series created by Brian Jordan Alvarez, who also stars as Evan Marquez, a high school English teacher in Austin, Texas. Evan finds himself constantly navigating the complexities of his professional and personal life, all while dealing with the ever-evolving social norms at Morrison-Hensley High.

Evan is a principled man, but his strong convictions often land him in difficult situations. His close-knit group of friends at the school includes his optimistic best friend Gwen Sanders (Stephanie Koenig), the history teacher who always sees the best in people; Markie Hillridge (Sean Patton), the gruff yet insightful PE teacher; and Principal Grant Moretti (Enrico Colantoni), who seeks peace but respects Evan’s passion despite the complications it causes.

As Evan juggles his relationships with colleagues and students, he faces an investigation for an old incident involving a kiss with his boyfriend Malcolm (Jordan Firstman) in front of students. This scrutiny leads Evan to question whether he can truly be himself at work, especially when a new teacher, Harry (Langston Kerman), enters his life and sparks romantic interest.

Throughout the eight-episode season, English Teacher explores the challenges Evan faces as he tries to balance his personal integrity with the demands of his job, all while providing a comedic look at life inside a high school. The show promises to deliver a fresh, engaging, and humorous take on the complexities of being an educator today.
