Of Money and Blood, also known by the French name “D'argent et de sang” is a 2023 French crime drama thriller miniseries created, written, and directed by Xavier Giannoli. Based on Fabrice Arfi's 2018 book, it explores one of France's biggest carbon tax fraud scandals. For the unversed, a carbon tax aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by making the cost of carbon emissions visible.

The series premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival on 31 August and aired on Canal+ on October 16. Originally titled Tikkoun, Of Money and Blood is the first TV series for both Giannoli and actor Vincent Lindon. Produced by Curiosa Films with a budget of €30 million ($28 million), Canal+ financed 50% of the development costs.

Gaspard Ulliel was initially cast as Jérôme Attias, inspired by businessman Arnaud Mimran, and was actively filming when he tragically died in a skiing accident in January 2022. His death suspended production, which had 84 days left of filming. Ramzy Bedia portrays Alain Fitoussi, inspired by Mimran's friend Marco Mouly.

Vincent Lindon stars as Simon Weynachter, a customs inspector determined to catch the masterminds: small-time crook Alain Fitoussi and high-class trader Jérôme Attias. The investigation spans from France to Asia, the Middle East, and Brussels, where the carbon credit market concept began.

The series, liberally adapted from Arfi's book, delves into a real-life carbon credit tax scam that defrauded the French state of at least $1.7 billion, known as the “fraud of the century” when it went to trial in 2018. In September 2023, a top fraudster behind the scam was sentenced to nine years in prison. Twelve people were sentenced for their roles in VAT fraud and money laundering, with Cyril Astruc receiving the harshest sentence in absentia. Turkish bank Garanti Bankasi was fined €8 million for money laundering.

Another related scam, involving 36 suspects and €385 million, also led to trials in Marseille. The fraud involved exploiting VAT exemptions on carbon permits, pocketing the VAT instead of paying it to tax authorities, and using front companies to obscure the scam.
