Even though Apple is known for producing high-quality hardware, Lithium-Ion batteries have their limitations. After several hundred charging cycles, battery life drops on any device, and Apple’s devices are no exception. The company sought to remedy this issue with its affordable battery program - but the offer is set to shut down on January 1, 2019.

If you own an iPhone starting from an iPhone 6 and SE to the latest iPhone XS and XR, you are eligible for discounted battery replacements for just another week. Currently, the devices are eligible for battery replacements for just $29, and once the offer period ends, the prices will go up to $79.

With just a week left for you to claim the offer for your Apple device, you can do a quick check to see if you need a battery replacement for your iPhone by heading to your device’s settings. There is a Battery Health tool under the Battery Settings, and iOS will let you know the overall condition of your battery.

AppleCare+ users need not worry about the removal of the offer as battery replacements will be covered by Apple free of charge as long as a coverage plan is active. All replacements are carried out at official stores and authorized service centers which may require prior booking.

The battery replacement offer was introduced in 2016, but most people were not aware of it until a controversy surrounding Apple’s “planned obsolescence” came out with reports of devices being slowed down on purpose by the manufacturer. The company clarified that it was indeed the case and removed the software bottlenecks in place that were initially implemented to improve battery life and thus reducing performance in the process.
