Twitter users are quite unhappy following Twitter founder Jack Dorsey's statement revealing that he is not a fan of the heart-shaped like button on the platform and that the company will be removing the button soon. The decision was most likely made to offer a healthier climate to debate on the platform according to reports.

Dorsey revealed earlier this month “We have a big like button with a heart on it and we’re incentivizing people to want it to go up. Is that the right thing? Versus contributing to the public conversation or a healthy conversation? How do we incentivize healthy conversation?"

Earlier this year Twitter announced a bookmark feature that allowed users to save tweets without hitting the like button, which is a positive way to appreciate content without adding to the likes of a post. It is likely that the bookmark feature will permanently replace the like feature for now, unless the platform faces a lot of backlashes and is forced to revert the change.

Snapchat had made some changes to the app’s UI earlier this year and a large number of negative reviews that feedback forced the app to revert the redesign. Twitter is likely to be monitoring the sentiments on the change after it is implemented or the platform may decide to ditch the update altogether going by the current outrage on the platform.

There is no official word on when the like button will be taken down, and there have been no reports of the company testing the removal of the button yet. The platform has been actively trying to offer a healthier experience to users even at the cost of losing users through bans on bot and spam accounts.
