iOS 12.1 Will Bring Group Facetime and Dual-Sim Support

One of the biggest changes that Apple made to its 2018 lineup of devices is dual-sim support, which was announced for the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR earlier this year. However, the iOS 12 update that hit eligible devices was missing Group FaceTime and dual-sim support. A new patch has been listed in the iPhone User Guide which confirms that the missing features will be making it to the eligible devices soon.

If you want to see the latest User Guide by Apple, you can search for the "iPhone User Guide for iOS 12.1" in the Apple Books app, and you will be able to see all the additions the tech giant is making in the upcoming update. The features were initially announced in WWDC 2018 last month and were two of the most anticipated additions to iOS for fans.

The two features were initially scheduled for release in August, but Apple pushed the release date back and made it part of the 12.1 Beta instead of the release version of iOS 12 earlier this year. Group FaceTime will allow up to 32 participants to talk to each other and the tech giant has designed the app intuitively to declutter the UI even with too many participants in a video call.

Dual-sim support is a first for Apple, and none of the older generation devices had access to dual-networks on a single iPhone. Other platforms have had access to dual-sim devices for quite some time now, and it is quite useful as it allows users to use two phone numbers without requiring separate devices.

The new devices come with a single eSIM slot which is embedded into devices as well as a physical sim slot. Apple customers in China will not get access to the eSIM slot and devices in the region will contain two physical SIM slots instead.
