Upcoming 6.5-inch iPhone X Successor Likely to be Called ‘iPhone Xs Max’

We are just a week away from Apple's September 12th event where the Cupertino-based giant is expected to launch a bevy of product refreshes. Of course, the most awaited announcement would be the launch of three iPhone variants that are expected to continue the iPhone X's edge-to-edge notched display tradition. While there were reports that Apple is yet to decide on a naming scheme, 9to5Mac quotes insider sources who claim that the largest 6.5-inch OLED iPhone will likely be called the 'iPhone Xs Max'.

According to reports so far, Apple will be introducing three iPhone X successors. Two of them are said to feature 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED screens while the third model is a lower-end variant with a 6.1-inch IPS LCD display. All models will be powered by the 7nm Apple A12 SoC with the OLED variants expected to sport 4 GB RAM and dual SIM options in select markets. Recently, the front glass panels of the three iPhone variants have leaked confirming the presence of three screen sizes. Also on the anvil are new color choices for the 6.1-inch LCD model.

Traditionally, Apple has always added a 'Plus' moniker to the larger iPhone variant since the iPhone 6 but Bloomberg did report previously that Apple is considering dropping that nomenclature.

The iPhone has always targeted the upper end of the smartphone market and looks like it will be no different this time. German site Macerkopf estimates that the 6.1-inch LCD version will be priced at €799 (₹66,700) while the 5.8-inch iPhone Xs will retail for €909 (₹75,500). The flagship 6.5-inch iPhone Xs Max is expected to cost around €1,149 (₹96,000).

The launch of multiple iPhone variants is expected to boost revenue for Apple in more markets and analysts are highly optimistic that the 6.1-inch LCD variant will do extremely well, which will, in turn, translate into increased sales of accessories and Apple services such as music and video.

Apple's September 12th event will be taking place at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino and apart from the new iPhones, Apple will also be announcing new bezel-less iPads, the Apple Watch Series 4, a refreshed Mac Mini, and more.
