Anti-piracy organization BREIN has successfully shut down yet another piracy website with Place2Home becoming the latest victim. The website was a popular Usenet community where users uploaded movies, TV shows, and other content.

Place2Home was started more than half a decade ago and was home to content mostly uploaded by Dutch file-sharers. The site recently updated its main page with a shutdown notification. The website informed users “Over the past few years thousands of (recent) films, TV series, music, games, and e-books have been made available on this website. The making available of copyright-protected works infringes the copyrights and neighboring rights of the copyright holders to those works.”

As reported by TF, BREIN and Place2Home came to a mutual agreement which forced the UseNet platform to shut down, and the owner of the file-sharing website will have to abstain from any other copyright infringing activities. It is unknown how the operators of the website were caught, and it is likely that hosting provider of the Usenet platform revealed the details to BREIN.

The settlement terms between BREIN and Place2Home were not revealed, but it is likely that the file-sharing website will have to pay a hefty fine for all of the unauthorized uploads it hosted for years. The sister site to Place2Home.net was removed back in may while Place2Home.org continued to operate for a few more months. Place2Home.org was known as the biggest private website in the Netherlands.

The recent shutdown is one of BREIN’s biggest successes. The Dutch anti-piracy outfit was mostly focusing on smaller websites before Place2Home’s shutdown, and it is likely that other popular websites in The Netherlands will also be targeted in the near future.
