Despite Microsoft Edge being rated higher than Safari, Google Chrome, and other popular mobile browsers, still, the app has failed to gain a substantial user count since its release. With Safari and Chrome being iOS and Android’s native pre-installed apps, it is definitely difficult for Microsoft to market and push its flagship web browser on either platform.

Vishnu Nath of Microsoft revealed recently “We just crossed a 4.4 play store rating - this passes even Chrome on Android (we already ranked ahead of Chrome on iOS too).” With a solid suite of features making it into the latest beta of Microsoft Edge for iOS, the browser is closing in on the competition. The biggest update to the browser is the new Breaking News section that shows news snippets on the main page of the app.

The new update for Microsoft Edge also allows work/school and personal accounts to be separated when browsing with each profile containing its respective browsing history and browser data. The Favorites section can be reorganized instead of being a static menu that was sorted chronologically. The browser is now capable of viewing book annotations as well.

To make it easier for users to find out more about the new features, Microsoft Edge for iOS now includes a ‘What’s New and Tips’ link which shows a simple changelog, highlighting features for every update. Other than the above changes a number of performance improvements and bug fixes have also been implemented to optimize the app.

The beta update is exclusive to Apple Testflight users only. You can choose to sign up for Apple Testflight to get access to the new Microsoft Edge features or you can wait a few weeks for the update to hit the public build of the app.
