Google updated its Play Store policies recently to clearly state what kind of apps and content is allowed on the platform. The tech giant has requested app developers to not include any kind of adult content or horrific imagery on kids’ apps. Failing to abide by the guidelines will terminate the developer license on the Android marketplace. Google is also putting a ban on cryptocurrency mining and malware.

Any downloadable app from the Google Play Store should not contain built-in cryptocurrency miners to exploit user hardware to generate revenue. Apps to manage cryptocurrency wallets or trading apps will be allowed on the platform. Apple took action against all apps that deployed cryptocurrency miners last month after users complained about hardware instability, overheating issues and slow performance due to the apps. App developers can continue to mine on cloud providers or remote servers, as long as user hardware is not affected.

The company stated in its updated developer policy page “Your innovation is what drives our shared success, but with it comes responsibility. These Developer Program Policies, along with the Developer Distribution Agreement, ensure that together we continue to deliver the world's most innovative and trusted apps to over a billion people through Google Play. “

Google will also put a lid on apps that sell arms and ammunition on the platform. Low-quality apps and games are also being targeted by the tech giant with a rapid rise in the number of apps that do not add anything of value to users. Developers who publish similar apps with similar content will also have their apps de-listed.
