Multiple novels, video games, and a 2017 live-action Hollywood adaptation were also released.Â
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 is a direct follow-up to Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex, which originally ended in 2006. Ghost in the Shell Season 2 will release on Netflix on May 23, 2022. The recently released trailer features a new dispute faced by Motoko Kusanagi, where she and her mercenary crew, "GHOST," face off against a posthuman rebellion. They come across the perpetrator of the conflict: an unknown AI adversary named N.Â
Netflix officially describes the new season of Ghost in the Shell as:
In 2045, the world has been thrown into a state of systematic "sustainable war," but the threat of human extinction at the hands of AI hasn't yet pervaded the public consciousness. Former members of Public Security Section 9, including full-body cyborg Major Motoko Kusanagi, are working as hired mercenaries when mysterious beings known as "post humans" begin to emerge. The world's superpowers are trying to come to grips with the threat, and so Section 9 is reorganized.
