Disney joins a growing list of companies that have discontinued or restricted their operations in Russia following Moscow's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine that started on February 24, 2022. The Walt Disney Company said that it is taking steps to stop all business in Russia.

Earlier, the company had said that they are pausing the release of theatrical films in the country, but now it is working on shutting down the rest of its services there. "Given the unrelenting assault on Ukraine and the escalating humanitarian crisis, we are taking steps to pause all other businesses in Russia," a spokesperson said.

This move would impact Disney Cruise Lines, National Geographic, content and product licensing, local content production, and linear channels. The Walt Disney Company said some business activities can and will be paused immediately, while linear channels and some content and product licensing will take time to suspend given contractual complexities.

However, the company said that all their Russian staff would remain employed. It is also working with NGOs to provide urgent humanitarian aid and assistance to those affected by the war. Some entertainment companies and businesses that have cut ties with the nation include Netflix, AppleGoogle, Microsoft, Samsung, Twitter, Meta, YouTube, and more.
