If you ask a Naruto fan what their favorite moment from the series is, you'll most likely get one answer: when Naruto finally befriends Kurama and opens the gate. While Naruto is in no way the first jinchuriki to ever achieve the feat of befriending the beast within them, befriending the Nine-Tails Fox Kurama is a serious accomplishment.
This is obviously because the Kyuubi, the strongest of all the tailed beasts, was also the most unfriendly and difficult even with the rest of the beasts. However, Naruto and his infamous "talk-no-Jutsu," managed to achieve what no other nine-tailed jinchuriki ever did. So, how does Naruto become friends with the Nine-Tails Fox Kurama? Read on to find out.
Ever since the beginning of the series, the titular Naruto Uzumaki has not only managed to make a place for himself in the heart of fans but also in the heart of some of his enemies. Naruto, who has on occasion even convinced his enemies to sacrifice themselves for his cause, also managed to befriend one of the most hostile and powerful creatures to exist: The Nine Tails Fox, Kurama.
Naruto and Kurama become friends in episode 329 of Naruto: Shippuden which is titled "Two-Man Team." While Naruto and Kurama were at odds with one another ever since their first interaction, the young shinobi continually impressed Kurama throughout the years with his compassion. During the Fourth Great Shinobi War, Naruto helps the Four Tailed beast Son Goku by removing the rods that Madara put in him. As a reward, Goku gives him a bit of his chakra in an attempt to help Naruto in his fight against the Uchiha.
Seeing this, Kurama comes to realize that Naruto has the compassion of Rikudo Sennin, AKA the Sage of Six Paths, and sees him as a reincarnation. After this, Kurama offers his chakra to Naruto and the two fist bump. Naruto then opens the seal placed upon the nine-tails and declares him a friend who will no longer be called the vicious nine-tails fox, but by his proper name: Kurama.
It's truly one of the best and most emotional scenes of the entire series!
