Naruto x Hokage

The Naruto-verse, created by Masashi Kishimoto, features a long story entangled with war, love, tragedy, and friendship. The known world consists of five hidden villages, each guarded by a leader known as a Kage. The titular Naruto hails from the Village Hidden in the Leaves, AKA Konohagakure, the leader of which is known as the Hokage.

As fans of the show will remember, Naruto's lifelong dream ever since the first episode was to become the Hokage someday. Even though Naruto was unaware of the fact that his father, Minato Namikaze, was the fourth Hokage of Konoha, his desire to fill the shoes of the village head never faltered.

However, the timeline of Naruto actually becoming the Hokage of Konoha is a bit confusing for fans since it doesn't really happen in any of the canon episodes. But don't worry, because we've got you covered there. So, when does Naruto fulfill his dream of becoming the Hokage? Read on to find out.

When Does Naruto Become Hokage?

While fans are aware that Naruto does achieve his childhood dream of becoming the Hokage, thanks to the ongoing Boruto series, the official ceremony takes place before the events of the sequel show. Fans of Naruto are aware that Naruto doesn't become Hokage in the entire run of Naruto Shippuden. Due to plot reasons, Kishimoto confirmed that he couldn't make Naruto Hokage in Shippuden.

Naruto became Hokage in a blank period between the events of Naruto: Shippuden and Boruto. Naruto becoming Hokage is also not covered in any of the novels or the manga. Fortunately, we get to see Naruto's Hokage ceremony in anime form. There are two ways to watch this ceremony:

Trivia

Interestingly, Naruto is the first and only Hokage to never advance from his Genin level. While fans were able to watch the catastrophic Chunin exam that took place at Konoha in Naruto: Shippuden, Naruto never retook the test.

Thanks to Kakashi, Naruto had to study everything necessary to become a Jonin right before officially becoming the Hokage, but he never actually took the exam. He remains, to this day, the only Genin level Hokage of Konohagakure.
