HBO Max is among the must-have and en vogue on-demand streaming platforms right now, offering an extensive content library, competing with Netflix and Hulu. This means the HBO Max app supports almost all of the currently popular devices and platforms, including TVs and streaming devices, so Apple TV made the list. Let's see how to sign up, download, and install HBO Max on Apple TV in a few easy-to-follow steps.
Is Apple TV Supported by HBO Max?
Yes, HBO Max supports Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD that has the latest tvOS software, so you can install the app and watch HBO Max on these devices. We recommend you go to your Apple TV Settings and search for available updates for your software before installing the app.
Go to Settings > System > Software Updates and select Update Software. If there's an update available, select Download and Install.
How to Get HBO Max on Apple TV
- First, you need to be an HBO subscriber, so sign up for HBO Max on their website if you don't have an account.
- Once you have your subscription active, go to the home page on your Apple TV and open the App Store.
- Select the Search bar and type in HBO Max to find the app.
- Select the app from the results on the page and download HBO Max on the Apple TV.
- After the installation is complete, launch the HBO Max app.
- Finally, log in to your HBO Max account and enter your credentials.

If you're just using the Apple TV App on some other device (like Roku, for example) and do not own an Apple TV device and, keep in mind that there needs to be a dedicated HBO Max app for the device where you are using the Apple TV App on.
Can I Mirror or AirPlay HBO Max to Apple TV?
You can also watch HBO Max on Apple TV by mirroring the streaming app from another Apple device. First, make sure the two devices are connected to the same network. Open the HBO Max app (and log in to your HBO Max account if needed) on your AirPlay-compatible device and use the AirPlay button in the upper right to select the Apple TV, then play the desired content.
On a Mac, use the AirPlay icon in the menu bar to connect the devices and watch HBO Max to Apple TV.
