With Apple struggling in the streaming device market to players like Amazon and Roku, tvOS is receiving a host of new updates to make the Apple TV 4K more appealing. The Apple TV 4K was released last year as Apple’s premium offering in the streaming device market, but it failed to leave an impact in the already crowded pool of streaming devices.

The Apple TV 4K was compliant with Dolby Vision HDR but did not come with Dolby Atmos surround sound support when it was launched. With the latest tvOS update headed to users in the coming weeks, the free surround sound channel upgrade will be available.

Apple TV is also partnering with new carriers and cable operators to offer a “zero sign-on” feature. It allows all existing members of partner subscriptions to get access to the entire roster of Apple’s apps and content without an added fee. Apple is aggressively partnering with multiple media companies to offer exclusive content to its users. The tech giant is said to be in the works to put out a lot more original content in the near future.
