When it comes to Android devices, you are able to turn off notifications from the apps running in the background because you don't want to be bothered all the time with the latest news, updates, etc. However, users could never avoid notifications that are coming from the Android system itself and its UI. Until now.

Android P is being introduced through the Developer Preview (DP) 1 and 2 and we are learning more and more about the new version of this OS every day. Android Police notes that recent screenshots are telling us more about the concept of turning off previously mentioned system notifications. However, some screenshots from DP1 and DP2 are quite contradictory.

For System UI notifications, In the DP1 we had an option to turn off all of the system notifications, while in the updated DP2 screenshots it looks like we can only toggle notifications regarding the Battery status and Screenshots. There is also a new channel for Hints.

When it comes to Android System notifications there are a lot more differences between DP1 and DP2. In DP2 there are three more channels available to toggle: App running, Do Not Disturb, and System changes. And while DP1 allowed users to change all of the Android System notifications, the DP2 allows us to change only a few channels like Developer messages, Network alerts, Network available, Car mode, Physical keyboard, and Virtual keyboard.

All in all, this is a great news since the current Android Oreo 8.1 and its predecessors never gave us any options to turn off some of these system notifications that could become annoying from time to time.

And it brings the question if the user really needs to be notified all the time of some routine operations within the system itself and the UI like taking a screenshot or having a low battery status, etc.
