Twitter’s approach to news has always been obvious. They changed their category to “news” from “social networking” in 2016. Later on, they also shifted their focus on showcasing live news broadcasts. They also tried to feed news through a dedicated tab in 2015. But, it didn’t work out and later scraped out due to no positive impact on user’s behaviors. They were also testing out a new algorithm that will make trending news organization tweets at the top of the timeline.

The changes will impact on how the Twitter users browse their service. Now the focus is clearly on the news which aims to make Twitter a go-to source for current affairs and events.

Overall, the new attempt means Twitter is trying to showcase news without being intrusive. After all, all the news are fetched from the user’s network. The change in Twitter’s approach can make or break the company. We can only wait and see how it plays out.
