At CinemaCon 2025, Sony Pictures revealed a brand new look at 28 Years Later, which will round out the trilogy that began with the 2002 zombie film. The film will pick up 28 years after the Rage virus broke out. It will explore how humans are still struggling to survive on a small remote island connected to the mainland where flesh-eating zombies are roaming free.

Second 28 Years Later Trailer Debuts at CinemaCon

Danny Boyle said (via Variety), “I still love an apocalypse. I love killing the infected. I still love blowing shit up. That’s how my agent describes my best stuff.” The second trailer for 28 Years Later, which hasn’t been released yet to the public, amplifies the fear and terror that was shown in the first one

There are plenty of jump scares and one of the most intriguing scenes is one where we see monuments made out of human skulls all across the UK. Newcomer Alfie Williams and Taylor-Johnson have to traverse to the continent from their island haven. But it isn’t going to be easy with hungry zombies on their trail.

In the footage we also see Ralph Fiennes narrate what happened to him during the first outbreak. Also, there are closeups of Cillian Murphy’s skeleton in the countryside. The cast of 28 Years Later includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Erin Kellyman.

Danny Boyle Reveals his Financing Troubles for the Trilogy

28 Years Later is part of the three planned sequels to the first two films- 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. So, even though 28 Years is rounding out a trilogy, it is also beginning a new one.

28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple is the next one in line. However, only these two sequels have been financed for now. Sony is probably waiting to see how the two films do before giving the green light to a third one. Nia DaCosta is helming The Bone Temple, and as per her, the second film has been filmed. Also, a rough cut has been put together (via JoBlo).

28 Years Later will be released in theatres on Friday, June 20, 2025.
