Paramount+’s 1923 returns with its season two premiere, "The Killing Season," picking up the story two years after the intense finale of season one. The Duttons continue to face serious threats to the Yellowstone Ranch as Jacob (Harrison Ford) works on paying the taxes owed to Donald Whitfield, which could see the ranch fall into Whitfield’s hands if left unresolved.Â
Meanwhile, Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) gets closer to returning home, Teonna (Aminah Nieves) is still on the run, and Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) is determined to reunite with Spencer.
In 1923 season 2 episode 1, Cara writes letters to Spencer, knowing they may never reach him. The ranch is barely holding on, with only a few cattle left, and winter making survival even harder. Jacob, Jack, and a few cowboys ride into Bozeman, where Jacob learns Zane is imprisoned for his interracial marriage, and his family is being held. Sheriff McDowell confirms Whitfield is behind it and warns Jacob to pay the taxes quickly. Back at the ranch, Elizabeth faces a mountain lion on the porch—Cara kills it just in time.
Shoveling coal on a ship bound for Galveston, Spencer befriends Luca, a Sicilian crew member being assaulted by another worker. Spencer intervenes, leading to the attacker’s death. Later, Luca considers suicide, but Spencer convinces him otherwise. Luca offers Spencer a way to make money through underground fights. Spencer wins brutal bouts and earns enough to continue his journey to Montana.
In 1923 season 2 episode 1, Teonna, her father, and Pete Plenty Clouds continue fleeing Father Renaud and Marshal Kent, who massacre a Comanche tribe in pursuit. They unknowingly camp on the JA Ranch in Texas, where a ranch hand tells them they’re safe. Meanwhile, Teonna and Pete grow closer, but their future remains uncertain.
In Sussex, England, a heartbroken and pregnant Alex is desperate to reach America. With help from her best friend Jennifer, she sells jewelry for passage to New York, where she plans to take a train to Montana. Before parting, Jennifer gifts Alex her bracelet for financial security. Alex boards the ship, determined to find Spencer.
With mounting threats, bitter winters, and lives hanging in the balance, 1923 season two sets the stage for an intense battle for survival.
1923 season two is now streaming on Paramount+. It airs weekly on Sundays and the next episode will air on March 2, 2025.
