Plot
Teacup is a horror thriller series set in rural Georgia, inspired by Robert McCammon's bestselling novel Stinger. The story revolves around a diverse group of individuals who must unite to survive an unknown threat over a 48-hour period. While the novel takes place in the troubled town of Inferno, Texas, the adaptation shifts to a Southern setting to create a distinct atmosphere, with principal photography conducted near Atlanta.
Showrunner Ian McCulloch aims to capture the essence of the novel while crafting a unique adaptation, stripping down the larger ensemble and elaborate set pieces to focus on character-driven storytelling. Filming
Filmed in a forested area outside Atlanta, Ian McCulloch aimed to create "the best summer camp ever" for the series. “The scope of the show changed because we realized what we had,” he noted, highlighting the beauty of the surroundings. McCulloch revealed that the series unfolds over 48 hours and hinted that the meaning of the title Teacup would become clear to viewers within the first few episodes.
Behind the Scenes
Ian McCulloch, known for Yellowstone, Deputy, and Chicago Fire, serves as the showrunner and an executive producer for the series Teacup. E.L. Katz, recognized for directing The Haunting of Bly Manor and overseeing the final season of Channel Zero, also takes on the roles of executive producer and director.
James Wan, a prominent figure in contemporary horror, joins as an executive producer alongside McCulloch and Katz. Wan is famed for co-creating the Saw series and directing popular horror films like Insidious, The Conjuring, and Malignant, as well as helming blockbusters such as Furious seven and Aquaman. His production company, Atomic Monster, is behind this new series, which is in addition to another sci-fi project for Peacock featuring Simu Liu.
Executive producers also include Michael Clear and Rob Hackett, both associated with Archive 81, along with Francisca X. Hu and Kevin Tancharoen. With this talented team at the helm, Teacup is poised to deliver a chilling viewing experience.
